Position Overview

Nedsdag’s Bargain Center is seeking dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Custodians to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our customers and employees.

As a Custodian, you play an essential role in creating the first impression customers have when they visit our store. From spotless restrooms and polished floors to clean breakrooms and organized common areas, your work directly contributes to the overall shopping experience and reflects the high standards of the Nedsdag’s brand.

The ideal candidate takes pride in cleanliness, understands the importance of sanitation and safety, and enjoys working in a fast-paced retail environment.

Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining all interior and exterior areas of the store, including sales floors, entrances, restrooms, offices, breakrooms, warehouses, customer lounges, and parking areas. This position also assists with maintaining cleaning supplies, reporting maintenance issues, and ensuring the store consistently meets company cleanliness and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Store Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain all flooring surfaces.
  • Dust shelves, displays, fixtures, and furniture.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and glass doors.
  • Sanitize shopping carts, baskets, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the store.
  • Replace trash liners and maintain waste disposal areas.
  • Clean entrances, vestibules, and customer waiting areas.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming shopping environment at all times.

Restroom Maintenance

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms throughout the day.
  • Refill soap, paper towels, tissue, and hand sanitizer dispensers.
  • Inspect restrooms regularly for cleanliness and supplies.
  • Report plumbing or maintenance issues immediately.
  • Ensure restrooms remain odor-free and presentable.

Employee Areas

Maintain cleanliness in:

  • Breakrooms
  • Training Rooms
  • Offices
  • Conference Rooms
  • Lockers
  • Employee Restrooms
  • Hallways
  • Storage Areas

Warehouse Support

  • Sweep warehouse floors.
  • Remove pallets, debris, and packaging materials.
  • Maintain loading dock cleanliness.
  • Organize recycling and waste collection areas.
  • Support warehouse housekeeping initiatives.
  • Assist with maintaining safe walkways and exits.

Exterior Maintenance

Help maintain:

  • Parking Lots
  • Sidewalks
  • Store Entrances
  • Shopping Cart Areas
  • Landscaping (light maintenance)
  • Outdoor Trash Receptacles
  • Loading Areas

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA safety standards.
  • Properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report spills and hazards immediately.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) awareness.
  • Assist with emergency cleanup situations.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Complete opening cleaning checklist.
  • Maintain restrooms throughout the day.
  • Clean customer lounge and break areas.
  • Sweep and mop sales floor.
  • Remove trash and recycling.
  • Clean glass and mirrors.
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies.
  • Support warehouse housekeeping.
  • Complete closing cleaning checklist.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Preferred

  • Commercial cleaning experience.
  • Retail custodial experience.
  • Housekeeping experience.
  • Floor care experience (buffing, waxing, polishing).
  • OSHA Safety Training.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Push and pull cleaning carts and equipment.
  • Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb ladders.
  • Operate floor scrubbers, vacuums, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
